Estraderm MX is a transdermal hormone replacement therapy (HRT) patch containing estradiol, a form of estrogen that is chemically identical to the hormone naturally produced by the body. The patch delivers a continuous dose of estrogen through the skin, helping to relieve menopausal symptoms while avoiding first-pass metabolism through the liver.

Estraderm MX is commonly prescribed to treat symptoms associated with menopause, including hot flushes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, mood changes, sleep disturbances, and reduced quality of life caused by declining estrogen levels. It may also be used to help prevent osteoporosis in postmenopausal women who are at increased risk of fractures and cannot take other osteoporosis treatments.

The patch is usually applied twice weekly to clean, dry, hairless skin on the lower abdomen or buttocks. Application sites should be rotated with each new patch, and patches should not be applied to the breasts or irritated skin. Each patch provides a steady release of estradiol over several days, helping to maintain consistent hormone levels.

Estraderm MX is available in 25, 50, 75, and 100 micrograms/24 hours, allowing treatment to be tailored to individual patient needs. Your healthcare provider will prescribe the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration necessary.

Women who still have a uterus will usually need to take a progestogen alongside Estraderm MX to reduce the risk of endometrial hyperplasia and endometrial cancer associated with estrogen-only therapy.
