Dermovate Cream 0.05% is a prescription-only, very potent topical corticosteroid containing clobetasol propionate. It is used for severe inflammatory skin conditions, including eczema, dermatitis and certain forms of psoriasis, particularly when less potent corticosteroids have not provided sufficient relief.

The cream helps reduce inflammation, redness, swelling and itching. Its less greasy formulation is particularly suitable for moist or weeping skin lesions.

Available in 30g and 100g tubes, Dermovate Cream should be used only as prescribed by a healthcare professional.

Apply a thin layer of Dermovate Cream to the affected skin once or twice daily, as directed by your prescriber.

  • Gently rub a small amount into the affected area.
  • Wash your hands after application unless your hands are being treated.
  • Avoid contact with the eyes, mouth and other sensitive areas.
  • Do not cover treated skin with airtight dressings unless instructed by your prescriber.
  • Treatment should generally be limited to short courses. Continuous treatment should not exceed four weeks without medical reassessment.
  • Do not exceed 50g per week unless specifically directed by a specialist.

If symptoms worsen or do not improve, consult your healthcare professional. Children require additional precautions and shorter treatment courses.

Do not use Dermovate Cream if you:

  • Are allergic to clobetasol propionate or any other ingredient.
  • Have untreated bacterial, fungal or viral skin infections.
  • Have rosacea or acne vulgaris.
  • Have perioral dermatitis.
  • Have itching without inflammation.
  • Are treating an infant under one year of age.

Dermovate Cream should not be used for untreated genital or perianal itching. Consult your prescriber before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or on the face or skin folds.

Possible side effects include:

  • Burning, irritation or discomfort at the application site.
  • Itching or skin redness.
  • Skin thinning, stretch marks or visible small blood vessels, particularly with prolonged use.
  • Changes in skin pigmentation.
  • Worsening or masking of skin infections.

Prolonged use, excessive application or treatment over large areas may cause systemic corticosteroid effects, including adrenal suppression.

Stop using the cream and seek medical advice if you experience signs of an allergic reaction, severe irritation or worsening skin symptoms.
