What is Daktacort® HC used for?

Daktacort® HC Cream is used to treat inflamed fungal skin infections, including:

• Athlete's foot (Tinea pedis)
• Ringworm (Tinea corporis)
• Jock itch (Tinea cruris)
• Inflamed candidal skin infections
• Fungal infections affecting skin folds

It is intended for short-term treatment to control inflammation before continuing treatment with an antifungal cream alone if required.

How does Daktacort® HC work?

Daktacort® HC contains two active ingredients:

Miconazole nitrate is an antifungal medicine that kills the fungi responsible for the infection.

Who should not use Daktacort HC?

Daktacort® HC may not be suitable if you:

• Are allergic to miconazole, hydrocortisone or any ingredient
• Have untreated bacterial or viral skin infections
• Have acne vulgaris
• Have rosacea
• Have perioral dermatitis
• Have tuberculosis of the skin
• Have syphilitic skin lesions
• Have broken or ulcerated skin
• Require long-term corticosteroid treatment

Directions for Use

Always use Daktacort® HC exactly as prescribed.

Typical directions

• Wash and dry the affected area before application.
• Apply a thin layer to the affected skin.
• Gently rub into the skin.
• Apply twice daily.
• Continue treatment for up to 7 days, or as directed by your prescriber.
• Once inflammation has settled, you may be advised to continue treatment with an antifungal cream that does not contain a steroid.

Wash your hands after applying the cream unless treating your hands.

Avoid contact with the eyes, mouth and other mucous membranes.

Do not use under airtight dressings unless advised.

Possible Side Effects

Most people tolerate Daktacort® HC well.

Possible side effects include:

• Mild burning
• Stinging
• Skin irritation
• Itching
• Dry skin
• Redness

Rarely:

• Allergic skin reaction
• Skin thinning with prolonged use
• Increased susceptibility to infection
• Skin colour changes

Stop treatment and seek medical advice if you develop severe irritation or signs of an allergic reaction.

Warnings and Precautions

Tell your clinician if you:

• Are pregnant or breastfeeding
• Have diabetes
• Have recurrent fungal infections
• Are using other steroid creams
• Have previously used Daktacort® HC
• Have a weakened immune system

Seek medical advice if:

• Symptoms worsen
• No improvement after 7 days
• Infection spreads
• The diagnosis becomes uncertain
