Crystacide® contains Hydrogen Peroxide 1% cream, a topical antiseptic used to treat localised non-bullous impetigo, a common bacterial skin infection.

Unlike antibiotics, hydrogen peroxide works by releasing oxygen that destroys bacteria on the surface of the skin. As it is not an antibiotic, it helps support antimicrobial stewardship by reducing unnecessary antibiotic use where appropriate.

Crystacide is used to treat small areas of non-bullous impetigo in adults and children where clinically appropriate.

How does Hydrogen Peroxide Cream work?

Hydrogen peroxide is an antiseptic.

When applied to the affected area, it releases oxygen that helps destroy bacteria responsible for impetigo while cleansing the infected skin.

Because it is not an antibiotic, resistance is less of a concern compared with topical antibiotics.

Who can use Crystacide?

Crystacide may be suitable for adults and children with:

• Localised non-bullous impetigo
• Small areas of infected skin
• Mild bacterial skin infections assessed as suitable for topical treatment

Treatment should only be used following assessment by a healthcare professional.

Who should not use Crystacide?

Crystacide may not be suitable if you:

• Are allergic to hydrogen peroxide or any of the ingredients
• Have widespread impetigo requiring oral antibiotics
• Have bullous impetigo
• Have infection around the eyes
• Have significant cellulitis or rapidly spreading infection
• Have severe pain, fever or feel generally unwell
• Have large open wounds unless advised by a healthcare professional

Directions for Use

Always use Crystacide exactly as directed by your prescriber.

• Wash your hands before and after applying the cream.
• Gently clean and dry the affected area.
• Apply a thin layer of cream directly to the infected skin.
• Use 2–3 times daily for 5 days, or as directed by your prescriber.
• Avoid rubbing the cream into unaffected skin.
• Do not cover with airtight dressings unless advised.
• Complete the full course, even if symptoms begin to improve.

Avoid contact with the eyes, inside the nose and mouth.

Possible Side Effects

Most people use Crystacide® without problems.

Occasionally you may experience:

• Mild burning or stinging
• Temporary redness
• Skin irritation
• Dry skin
• Itching

Stop using the cream and seek medical advice if you develop:

• Severe irritation
• Swelling
• Rash
• Difficulty breathing
• Signs of an allergic reaction
