Laxido Orange is an orange-flavoured laxative used to treat constipation in adults and young people aged 12 years and over. It can also be used for faecal impaction when clinically appropriate.

It contains macrogol 3350 with electrolytes. Macrogol works by retaining water in the bowel, helping to soften stools and make them easier to pass. The electrolytes help maintain normal sodium, potassium and water balance during treatment.

How to take: For constipation, the usual licensed dose for adults and those aged 12+ is 1 sachet, 1–3 times daily in divided doses, according to response. Dissolve each sachet in 125 mL of water, stir until dissolved and drink. Follow the directions provided by your prescriber or pharmacist.

Commonly reported side effects are gastrointestinal and can include abdominal discomfort, bloating, wind, nausea and diarrhoea. Mild diarrhoea will usually improve when the dose is reduced.

Laxido should not be used in certain conditions including intestinal obstruction or perforation, ileus, severe inflammatory bowel conditions such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis, or toxic megacolon. Patients should seek advice from their healthcare professional if unsure whether Laxido is suitable for them.

Active ingredients per sachet: Macrogol 3350 13.125 g, sodium chloride 350.7 mg, sodium hydrogen carbonate 178.5 mg and potassium chloride 46.6 mg.
