Wegovy 25mg Tablets: What to Expect From the Maintenance Dose

Wegovy 25mg once daily is the standard maintenance dose of oral Wegovy.

But reaching 25mg doesn't mean treatment becomes automatic.

Patients often ask whether they will continue losing weight, how long they should stay on the dose and what happens once they reach their goal.

What is Wegovy 25mg?

Wegovy tablets contain semaglutide, a GLP-1 medicine licensed for weight management.

The standard schedule progresses through:

1.5mg → 4mg → 9mg → 25mg once daily.

Each dose is normally used for at least one month before progressing.

25mg is the standard maintenance dose and should not be exceeded.

How effective is Wegovy 25mg?

In the OASIS 4 clinical trial, oral semaglutide 25mg produced substantial average weight loss.

Average body-weight reduction was approximately 13.6% at 64 weeks under the treatment-policy analysis. Another trial analysis, assuming treatment continued as intended, estimated approximately 16.6% weight loss.

These are averages rather than guarantees.

Individual results vary considerably.

Will I keep losing weight on 25mg?

You may continue losing weight after reaching 25mg.

However, weight loss often becomes slower as body weight decreases.

Eventually, many patients reach a point where the goal changes from:

“How much more can I lose?”

to:

“How do I maintain what I've achieved?”

Wegovy is licensed for weight loss and weight maintenance, so maintenance is a legitimate part of treatment.

What if my weight stops falling?

A plateau doesn't necessarily mean the medicine has failed.

Before considering another treatment, it is useful to review:

  • appetite control
  • portion sizes
  • calorie intake
  • physical activity
  • treatment adherence
  • sleep and stress
  • overall weight trend

Increasing beyond 25mg oral Wegovy is not recommended.

What side effects can happen?

The most common Wegovy tablet side effects are gastrointestinal and include:

  • nausea
  • vomiting
  • diarrhoea
  • constipation
  • indigestion
  • abdominal discomfort

These tend to be more common during dose escalation rather than appearing suddenly once maintenance has been reached.

Persistent vomiting, dehydration or significant symptoms should be discussed with your clinical team.

How should I take Wegovy 25mg?

Take one 25mg tablet once daily:

  • after an 8-hour fast
  • with up to approximately 120mL of water
  • then wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking or taking other oral medicines

Don't combine smaller tablets to make a 25mg dose.

Do Wegovy tablets need refrigeration?

No special refrigeration is required.

Keep Wegovy tablets in their original packaging to protect them from light and moisture.

This may make oral Wegovy particularly convenient for some patients who travel frequently or prefer not to manage injectable pens.

What happens when I reach my goal weight?

This is one of the most important conversations in weight management.

At Pharmulous, reaching your target doesn't automatically mean:

“Stop treatment.”

Your prescriber can consider your:

  • starting weight and BMI
  • current weight
  • amount lost
  • appetite
  • risk of weight regain
  • treatment history
  • tolerability
  • longer-term goals

For some patients, ongoing treatment may remain clinically appropriate.

Do I have to stay on 25mg?

Not necessarily.

Although 25mg is the standard maintenance dose, the product information allows treatment to remain at a previous dose level where needed.

Pharmulous takes a lowest-effective-dose approach where clinically appropriate.

Maintenance shouldn't automatically mean taking the maximum dose indefinitely.

The Pharmulous approach to maintenance

We don't see maintenance as an afterthought.

Our philosophy is:

Lose the weight. Maintain the progress. Keep the support.

We offer a doctor-led, maintenance-friendly approach that considers your entire treatment journey rather than simply today's BMI.
