Can I Drink Coffee After Taking Wegovy Tablets?

For many of us, the first thing we think about in the morning isn't medication.

It's coffee.

So if you're starting Wegovy tablets, one very practical question is:

Can I still have my morning coffee?

Yes, but not immediately after taking your Wegovy tablet.

How long should I wait?

After taking Wegovy, you should wait at least 30 minutes before drinking coffee, tea or any other drink.

Take your Wegovy tablet after fasting for at least 8 hours and swallow it whole with a small amount of plain water, no more than around 120ml.

Then start the clock.

After 30 minutes, you can have your usual breakfast and drinks.

Why can't I take Wegovy with coffee?

The  absorption of oral semaglutide can be affected by what is present in your stomach.

The UK product information states that food and larger quantities of water can reduce absorption.

So the safest routine is not:

Wegovy + morning coffee.

Instead:

Wegovy + small amount of plain water → wait at least 30 minutes → coffee.

What about black coffee?

The same rule applies.

The instructions don't create an exception for black coffee, tea without milk or a zero-calorie drink.

You should wait at least 30 minutes before drinking anything else.

I've accidentally had coffee too soon, have I ruined my dose?

Don't panic.

Drinking or eating within the 30-minute window may reduce the amount of semaglutide absorbed, but you cannot know exactly how much of your dose has already been absorbed.

Don't take another Wegovy tablet simply to compensate. If this happens repeatedly or you are unsure what to do, speak to your prescriber or pharmacist.

Make it part of your morning routine

One easy approach is to leave your Wegovy somewhere appropriate as a reminder and take it as soon as you wake.

Then use those 30 minutes to shower, get dressed or prepare for work.

By the time you're ready for breakfast:

coffee time.
