Why Am I Still Hungry on Wegovy Tablets?

Why Am I Still Hungry on Wegovy Tablets?
You've started Wegovy tablets expecting your appetite to disappear.
But you're still hungry.
Does that mean Wegovy isn't working?
Not necessarily.
Wegovy isn't supposed to eliminate hunger completely
Wegovy contains semaglutide, which acts on pathways involved in appetite, fullness and food intake.
But the aim isn't necessarily to make you never feel hungry again.
Hunger is a normal physiological signal.
A more useful question is whether you are noticing changes such as:
getting full sooner, eating smaller portions, snacking less often or finding food easier to manage.
Your dose may still be low
Wegovy tablets are increased gradually:
1.5mg → 4mg → 9mg → 25mg once daily.
Each dose is normally used for at least one month, with 25mg being the standard maintenance dose.
So if you're still on 1.5mg, 4mg or 9mg, you are still progressing through the dose-escalation phase.
Some patients notice appetite changes early. Others notice more as treatment progresses.
Are you taking your tablet correctly?
This is particularly important with oral Wegovy.
Take it:
after at least an 8-hour fast
with no more than approximately:
120ml of plain water
and then wait:
at least 30 minutes
before eating, drinking or taking another oral medicine.
Taking Wegovy with food, too much water or eating too soon afterwards can reduce absorption.
In fact, the Wegovy SmPC specifically advises clinicians that when response seems lower than expected, they should consider the variability of oral semaglutide absorption and whether the dosing instructions are being followed correctly.
Could there be another reason I'm hungry?
Absolutely.
Appetite can also be influenced by sleep, stress, physical activity, what you are eating and how restrictive your diet has become.
For example, trying to survive on extremely small amounts of food simply because you are taking Wegovy isn't necessarily sustainable.
Protein, fibre, hydration and balanced meals still matter.
Should I increase my dose?
Don't increase it yourself.
Your prescriber should consider your current dose, how long you've been taking it, weight trend, appetite, side effects and whether the tablet is being taken correctly.
And never take multiple Wegovy tablets to try to create a higher dose. The maximum recommended dose is one 25mg tablet daily.
How Pharmulous can help
At Pharmulous, we don't automatically interpret hunger as:
“You need a higher dose.”
We look at the whole picture.
Sometimes the answer is time. Sometimes it's administration. Sometimes it's nutrition. Sometimes a treatment review is appropriate.
The aim isn't zero hunger. It's better, sustainable appetite control.
