At Pharmulous, we understand your weight loss journey doesn’t abruptly stop when you reach your target weight and neither should your medication and support.

We are proud to offer tailored maintenance plans aligning with both your weight loss goals and our safe, appropriate and flexible prescribing.

Our maintenance approach is personalised to the patient and aims to put the patient on the lowest effective dose with regular support and guidance. Once the individual reaches their goal weight, we recommend tapering down until reaching a dose that is effective in maintaining the weight without causing further weight loss. The plan is flexible and you can move up or down in doses, if necessary, under the guidance and support of our clinician team.

At Pharmulous we strongly believe a successful weight maintenance plan focuses on long-term, sustainable lifestyle changes, including regular physical activity and a healthy eating plan. It involves finding a balance between calorie intake and expenditure, prioritising nutrient-rich foods, and establishing healthy habits that support weight management over time.

Key Components of a good weight maintenance plan:

  • Physical Activity:

    • Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity per week, or 30 minutes most days of the week.
    • Include a variety of activities you enjoy in order to stay motivated.
    • Regular exercise can help burn calories, build muscle, and improve overall health, making it easier to maintain a healthy weight.
  • Healthy Eating:

    • Focus on whole, unprocessed foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean protein, and healthy fats.
    • Control portion sizes to manage calorie intake.
    • Limit or avoid sugary drinks, processed foods, and unhealthy fats.
    • Consider meal prepping to make healthy eating easier and more convenient
  • Mindful Eating:

    • Pay attention to hunger and fullness cues to avoid overeating or undereating.
    • Eat slowly and savour your food to help with satiety.
    • Avoid distractions while eating, such as watching TV or using your phone.
  • Stress Management:

    • Find healthy ways to manage stress, such as exercise, yoga, meditation, or spending time in nature.
    • Stress can lead to unhealthy eating habits and weight gain, so it's important to address it.
  • Sleep:

    • Aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep per night.
    • Lack of sleep can disrupt hormones that regulate appetite and metabolism, potentially leading to weight gain.
  • Monitoring:

    • Track your weight regularly to monitor progress and identify any trends or changes.
    • Use a food journal or app to track your calorie intake and food choices.
    • This can help you identify areas where you can make adjustments to your plan.
  • Support:

    • Seek support from our clinician team whenever you require it.
    • Seek support from your family and friends.
  • Gradual Changes:

    • Focus on making gradual, sustainable changes rather than drastic or restrictive diets.
    • This can help you avoid feeling deprived and make it easier to maintain your weight loss over the long term.
  • Medication:

    • Ensure you take your medication for maintenance regularly as prescribed.

Frequently asked questions
  • How do I know what my maintenance dose is?

A maintenance dose is the lowest effective dose at sustaining a balanced weight at target. This can be influenced by a number of factors and may be a trial and error process in order to find the right dose for you.

Although the current licensed/recommended doses issued by Eli Lily are 5mg, 10mg and 15mg, Pharmulous acknowledge that these doses may not be suitable for everyone and this will be discussed with the individual during their consultation.

  • What is the lowest BMI Pharmulous will prescribe to?

Our patients are at an advantage due to having a history with us the transition into maintenance is usually seamless and can be tailored to individual needs. Generally, a BMI of 19 plus will be considered whilst taking into account other factors.

  • I have reached maintenance but wish to switch to pharmacies, will Pharmulous take me?

Yes! As a pro maintenance pharmacy we are supporting patients on their maintenance journeys even if this was achieved elsewhere. Ideally, this would be at a maintenance BMI of 24 and above but lower will be considered on a case by case basis.

Remember, we are here to help and not hinder your journey.

  • What if I want to halt my journey and then decide I want to restart?

Pharmulous are here to support and not hinder your weight management journeys and this means if you decide to stop treatment and see what maintenance looks like independent of the medications, our Patients can resume their journeys within 12 months of their last order without the need to fulfil the initiation criteria at the time. Our patients can still access our clinician support during this time via the clinician email service.
