Restarting Wegovy After a Break: What Dose Should You Restart On?

Holidays, surgery, illness, supply issues or simply life can interrupt Wegovy treatment.
But after a break, one question matters:
“Can I just restart my previous dose?”
Sometimes. But not always.
What if I've missed one Wegovy dose?
If it is five days or less since your dose was due, the patient information leaflet advises taking it as soon as possible.
If more than five days have passed, skip that dose and take your next injection on your usual scheduled day.
Never double the dose to catch up.
What if I've missed several weeks?
This is different.
The Wegovy SmPC states that when more doses are missed, reducing the starting dose for re-initiation should be considered.
Why?
Because your tolerance to gastrointestinal effects may change during a prolonged interruption.
Returning immediately to a higher dose after a long break may therefore cause substantially more nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea than you previously experienced.
Does everybody have to return to 0.25mg?
No automatic rule applies to every interruption.
Your clinician should consider:
- your previous Wegovy dose
- length of the treatment gap
- previous side effects
- why treatment stopped
- current health
- other medication
- whether anything clinically significant has changed.
What if I've gained weight during the break?
Weight regain does not mean you should compensate by restarting at a higher dose.
Dose selection is about safe reintroduction, not rapidly making up for weight gained during treatment interruption.
How Pharmulous can help
Pharmulous recognises that treatment journeys are not always perfectly uninterrupted.
If you've previously used Wegovy and want to restart, our clinicians can review your previous dose, treatment history and length of break before deciding the safest re-initiation plan.
