Foundayo Side Effects: What to Expect and How to Manage Them

What are the side effects of Foundayo?
Foundayo contains orforglipron, a once-daily oral GLP-1 receptor agonist licensed in the UK for weight management in eligible adults and for the treatment of type 2 diabetes.
Like all medicines, Foundayo can cause side effects.
The most frequently reported Foundayo side effects involve the digestive system. These may be particularly noticeable when treatment is first started or when the dose is increased.
In clinical studies, gastrointestinal side effects were generally mild or moderate, and nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea were more frequent during dose escalation before tending to decrease over time.
What are the most common Foundayo side effects?
The UK Summary of Product Characteristics lists the following as very common, meaning they may affect at least 1 in 10 people:
- nausea
- constipation
- diarrhoea
- vomiting
- indigestion or dyspepsia
- abdominal pain.
Other common side effects include:
- bloating
- burping
- acid reflux
- flatulence
- headache
- dizziness
- tiredness or fatigue
- hair loss.
Why does Foundayo cause digestive side effects?
Orforglipron activates GLP-1 receptors, including pathways involved in appetite regulation.
It also delays gastric emptying, particularly after the first dose, although this effect reduces over time.
That can contribute to feeling fuller after smaller amounts of food, but it may also contribute to nausea, bloating, reflux or changes in bowel habits.
Do side effects get worse when the Foundayo dose increases?
They can.
Foundayo starts at 0.8 mg once daily. After at least 30 days, treatment increases to 2.5 mg, with subsequent available doses of 5.5 mg, 9 mg, 14.5 mg and 17.2 mg.
For a full overview, see our Foundayo dosing schedule and dose guide.
Further increases should take account of treatment response and tolerability, rather than simply increasing automatically every month.
At Pharmulous, we believe the aim should be to find a dose that provides effective weight-management support while remaining tolerable for the individual patient.
How can you manage Foundayo side effects?
Management depends on the particular symptom.
When should I contact a healthcare professional?
Contact your clinician if side effects are persistent, becoming worse, preventing you from eating normally, affecting your ability to drink enough fluid or significantly interfering with everyday life.
Severe or persistent gastrointestinal symptoms warrant clinical review, and dose modification or discontinuation may sometimes need to be considered.
How Pharmulous can help
At Pharmulous, weight management is about more than simply moving patients through a dosing schedule.
Our clinicians consider:
- your response to treatment
- appetite control
- side effects
- nutritional intake
- hydration
- other medicines
- medical conditions
- your longer-term weight goals.
We take a flexible, patient-centred and maintenance-friendly approach, while keeping clinical safety at the centre of prescribing decisions.
The aim isn't simply to reach the highest Foundayo dose. It is to find an approach that is effective, safe, tolerable and sustainable.
